Supply chain management in health services: an overview

ABSTRACT

Purpose – This paper seeks to concentrate on the question whether any parallels can be found between the industrial sector and health care services with respect to the developments that have taken place in the area of Supply Chain Management. Starting from an analysis of existing literature, it is intended that different modes of Supply Chain integration will be discussed. Also, in doing so, it is intended that the lessons learned from the studies presented in this special issue will be summarized and placed into the perspective of future research that can be considered as necessary. Design/methodology/approach – This paper adopted an exploratory, qualitative approach based on an analysis of existing literature in the area of Supply Chain Management in Health Services. Additionally, material from the case studies presented in this special issue is used to assess the current body of knowledge regarding Supply Chain Management in Health Services. Findings – Starting from a classification of existing research, five main research areas with respect to Supply Chain Management in a health care setting are defined. Additionally, it is concluded that next to studies with a mono-disciplinary focus, an interdisciplinary focus on Supply Chain Management issues in health services seems to be necessary. Originality/value – This paper contributes to both the supply chain management literature and literature in the area of healthcare management by identifying some important research areas which are linked to both fields. This paper helps both academics and managers to gain a better understanding of the complexity of supply chain management in health services.

INTRODUCTION

During the last decade, the health care sector has changed rapidly. Due to increased competition, the growing influence of patient-associations and a necessity to deliver health services in a more efficient and effective way, many health care organisations have started projects in the area of patient logistics, clinical pathways, data interchange and vertical integration (Aptel and Pourjalali, 2001). Moreover, the redesign of hospital services and the implementation of integrated care programmes are frequently addressed as being critical strategies to decrease resource utilization and improve health care quality. Clearly, not only in practice but also from a theoretical point of view the area of health service operations has changed significantly.

چکیده

هدف – این مقاله تلاش دارد با توجه به تحولاتی که در زمینه مدیریت زنجیره تامین انجام شده است، تمرکز بر این سوال باشد که آیا می توان از همپوشانی بین بخش صنعتی و خدمات بهداشتی درمانی یافت. از تجزیه و تحلیل ادبیات موجود، استفاده از روش های مختلف ادغام زنجیره تامین مورد بحث قرار می گیرد. همچنین، در انجام این کار، در نظر گرفته شده است که درس های آموخته شده از مطالعات ارائه شده در این موضوع خاص خلاصه و قرار داده شده به چشم انداز تحقیقات آینده است که می تواند به عنوان ضروری در نظر گرفته شود. طراحی / روش شناسی / رویکرد – این مقاله یک رویکرد اکتشافی، کیفی مبتنی بر تجزیه و تحلیل ادبیات موجود در زمینه مدیریت زنجیره تامین در خدمات بهداشتی را پذیرفته است. علاوه بر این، مواد از مطالعات موردی ارائه شده در این موضوع خاص برای ارزیابی دانش موجود در زمینه مدیریت زنجیره تامین در خدمات بهداشتی استفاده می شود. یافته ها – با توجه به طبقه بندی تحقیقات موجود، پنج حوزه تحقیق اصلی در رابطه با مدیریت زنجیره تامین در یک سازمان بهداشتی تعریف شده است. علاوه بر این، نتیجه گیری می شود که در کنار مطالعات با تمرکز تک انضباط، تمرکز بین رشته ای در مسائل مدیریت زنجیره تامین در خدمات بهداشتی ضروری است. اصالت / ارزش – این مقاله به ادبیات و ادبیات مدیریت زنجیره تامین در زمینه مدیریت مراقبت های بهداشتی کمک می کند با شناسایی برخی از زمینه های پژوهشی مهم که به هر دو زمینه مرتبط است. این مقاله به هر دو دانشگاهی و مدیران کمک می کند تا درک بهتر پیچیدگی مدیریت زنجیره تامین در خدمات بهداشتی به دست آورد.

مقدمه

در دهه گذشته، بخش مراقبت های بهداشتی به سرعت تغییر کرده است. با توجه به افزایش رقابت، تاثیر رو به رشد انجمن های بیمار و ضرورت ارائه خدمات بهداشتی به شیوه ای موثر و موثر، بسیاری از سازمان های مراقبت های بهداشتی، پروژه هایی را در زمینه تدارکات بیمار، مسیرهای بالینی، تبادل داده ها و ادغام عمودی ( Aptel و Pourjalali، 2001). علاوه بر این، طراحی مجدد خدمات بیمارستان و اجرای برنامه های مراقبت های یکپارچه اغلب به عنوان استراتژی های حیاتی برای کاهش استفاده از منابع و بهبود کیفیت مراقبت های بهداشتی مورد توجه قرار می گیرند. واضح است که نه تنها در عمل، بلکه از نقطه نظر نظری، منطقه عملیات سرویس های بهداشتی نیز به طور قابل توجهی تغییر کرده است.
