A fuzzy model to evaluate the suitability of installing an enterprise resource planning system

ABSTRACT

The use of enterprise resource planning (ERP) as a foundation for the integration of the complete range of business processes and functions, is clearly useful and economically profitable in most very large organizations which manage a great deal of data in their information systems. However, the decision of installing an ERP system in all the companies is not always so clear, it will depend on the size, future profits and other features of the company. Therefore, different parameters (features, aspects) will be evaluated to make a decision about the suitability of the ERP system. These parameters might have different nature or the knowledge about them could be vague or imprecise. Thus, this implies that it would be suitable that the evaluation process can manage heterogeneous information. In this paper we shall present a fuzzy evaluation model to evaluate the suitability of an ERP system based on a multi-expert decision-making (ME-DM) process that is able to deal with heterogeneous information.

INTRODUCTION

The information technologies (IT) have an enormous impact on the productivity of the organizations. Companies have implemented systems such as enterprise resource planning (ERP) , material resource planning , electronic data interchange , etc., for improving their productivity. However, ERP systems have received much more attention recently for their potential in more effective decision-making. The installation of the ERP systems in big companies has produced an optimization of the companies internal value chain and hence important advantages and profits. This success has induced to other companies to install these costly systems expecting similar successful results. However, the installation of an ERP system is always very complex, expensive and has a massive impact on the entire organization. Due to these reasons the installation of the ERP should be evaluated carefully in order to avoid unsuccessful results in its implementation .The use of decision analysis techniques in evaluation processes has provided successful results .

چکیده

استفاده از برنامه ریزی منابع سازمانی (ERP) به عنوان پایه ای برای ادغام طیف گسترده ای از فرآیندهای کسب و کار و توابع، در اکثر سازمان های بسیار بزرگ مفید است و از لحاظ اقتصادی سودمند است که اطلاعات زیادی را در سیستم های اطلاعاتی خود مدیریت می کنند. با این حال، تصمیم به نصب یک سیستم ERP در همه شرکت ها همیشه واضح نیست، به اندازه، سود آینده و سایر ویژگی های شرکت بستگی دارد. بنابراین، پارامترهای مختلف (ویژگی ها، جنبه ها) برای تصمیم گیری درباره مناسب بودن سیستم ERP ارزیابی می شود. این پارامترها ممکن است دارای طبیعت متفاوتی باشند و یا دانش در مورد آنها ممكن است مبهم یا نامشخص باشد. بنابراین، این بدان معنی است که مناسب است که فرایند ارزیابی می تواند اطلاعات ناهمگن را مدیریت کند. در این مقاله ما یک مدل ارزیابی فازی برای ارزیابی مناسب بودن یک سیستم ERP بر مبنای فرایند تصمیم گیری چند متخصص (ME-DM) ارائه می کنیم که می تواند با اطلاعات ناهمگن مقابله کند.

مقدمه

فناوری اطلاعات (IT) تأثیر بسیار زیادی بر بهره وری سازمانها دارد. شرکت ها برای بهبود بهره وری خود سیستم هایی نظیر برنامه ریزی منابع سازمانی (ERP)، برنامه ریزی منابع مواد، تبادل الکترونیکی داده ها و غیره را اجرا کرده اند. با این حال، سیستم های ERP اخیرا به دلیل توان بالقوه خود در تصمیم گیری موثرتر، توجه بیشتری یافته اند. نصب سیستم های ERP در شرکت های بزرگ موجب بهینه سازی زنجیره ارزش داخلی شرکت ها و در نتیجه مزایای و سود های مهم آن شده است. این موفقیت باعث شده است که شرکت های دیگری برای نصب این سیستم های پر هزینه که انتظار می رود نتایج مشابهی نیز داشته باشند، الزام آور بوده است. با این حال، نصب یک سیستم ERP همیشه بسیار پیچیده و گران است و تأثیر زیادی بر کل سازمان دارد. با توجه به این دلایل نصب ERP باید با دقت مورد ارزیابی قرار گیرد تا از نتایج ناموفق در اجرای آن جلوگیری شود. استفاده از تکنیک های تجزیه و تحلیل تصمیم گیری در فرایندهای ارزیابی نتایج موفقیت آمیز ارائه شده است.
