Environmental Disclosure and Financial Characteristics of the Firm: The Case of Denmark

Drawing on the importance of social accounting for sustainable development, we study practices of environmental disclosure on the websites of companies listed on the Copenhagen Stock Exchange. The first part of this paper produces and discusses descriptive evidence on environmental reporting practices by listed companies with respect to the content of disclosed information. We then undertake an explanatory task in order to identify the factors that determine environmental reporting for firms listed on the Copenhagen Stock Exchange. Firm size, financial leverage, the market-to-book ratio, and profitability are significantly associated with the breadth environmental disclosure..

Information systems and sustainable supply chain management towards a more sustainable society: Where we are and where we are going

The objectives of this study are to identify and systematize scholarly articles on the use of information system to support sustainable supply chain management and to suggest future research opportunities. Therefore, a structured literature review was conducted. The most relevant studies identified were classified and categorized into seven dimensions: research context, research focus, research method, sectoranalyzed, information system (IS) beneficiaries, relationship between IS and green supply chain practices, and performance benefits. The main authors and articles on this particular topic were identified. In addition, it was concluded that IS is an important support tool for sustainable supply chain management practices since it brings benefits to the organization, suppliers, and customers. Furthermore, IS positively influences the operational, financial, and environmental performance of the organization. However, further advances in the literature are still needed. The major contribution of this research is related to the recommendations that provide opportunities for future research.
Networks a social marketing tool[taliem.ir]

Networks: a social marketing tool

Purpose – This research aims to extend the social marketing literature by considering the network effect as a social marketing tool. The network effect is seen as complementary to traditional social marketing tools. Design/methodology/approach – The authors study the implementation of a good practice, Local Agenda 21 (LA21), in the Basque Country. The empirical test involves 134 surveys conducted with municipal organizers of LA21. A SEM model is developed and tested. Findings – The network effect significantly impacts embrace of LA21 (social product) by municipalities. Research limitations/implications – The study refers to a single regional context. Future investigations are required in broader geographical contexts. Practical implications – This research aims to indicate possible alternative marketing-related paths towards a more across-the-board diffusion of locally based sustainable development (SD) strategies. This approach could be used to achieve strong adoption of other good practices. Originality/value – The authors adopt an uncommon perspective. Social marketing is viewable as a relationship-oriented government-to-government tool.
An empirical study of green[taliem.ir]

An empirical study of green supply chain management practices amongst UK manufacturers

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine the extent and nature of greening the supply chain (SC) in the UK manufacturing sector; and the factors that influence the breadth and depth of this activity. Design/methodology/approach – Based on the findings from a sample of manufacturing organisations drawn from the membership of The Chartered Institute for Purchasing and Supply. Data are collected using a questionnaire, piloted and pre-tested before distribution with responses from 60 manufacturing companies. Findings – On average manufacturers perceive the greatest pressure to improve environmental performance through legislation and internal drivers (IDs). The least influential pressures are related to societal drivers and SC pressures from individual customers. Green supply chain management (GSCM) practices amongst this “average” group of UK manufacturing organisations are focusing on internal, higher risk, descriptive activities, rather than proactive, external engagement processes. Environmental attitude (EA) is a key predictor of GSCM activity and those organisations that have a progressive attitude are also operationally very active. EA shows some relationship to legislative drivers but other factors are also influential. Operational activity may also be moderated by organisational contingencies such as risk, size, and nationality. Research limitations/implications – The main limitation to this paper is the relatively small manufacturing sample. Practical implications – This paper presents a series of constructs that identify GSCM operational activities companies to benchmark themselves against. It suggests which factors are driving these operational changes and how industry contingencies may be influential. Originality/value – This paper explores what is driving environmental behaviour amongst an “average” sample of manufacturers, what specific management practices take place and the relationships between them.

Professional Training of Future Green Economy Specialists and Strategic Priorities for Sustainable Subsurface Management

On the brink of the third millennium humanity has been showing a special interest in the environment. This article provides definitions of the term “sustainable development” and explains how to achieve it by implementing the new development model known as “the green economy”; it also shows the role and place of education in the overall set of tools and mechanisms that assist in transitioning to the green economy principles. The authors substantiate the importance and necessity of preparing specialists for the green economy as the first step towards its implementation. They give an example of an interdisciplinary training module designed to prepare future specialists. This module can easily be integrated in the student’s individual training course. We describe the advantages and benefits of the suggested educational module.
