Determinants of choice of semantic web based Software as a Service: An integrative framework in the context of e-procurement and ERP

The ever increasing Internet bandwidth and the fast changing needs of businesses for effectiveness with the partners in the procurement chain and is leading organizations to adopt information systems infrastructures that are cost effective as well as flexible. The question seems to be: what is driving organizations to go in for Software as a Service (SaaS) based e-procurement and ERP, rather than the packaged model of software provisioning? Whereas there have been studies reporting technology, cost, quality, network externalities and process as the main variables in the utility function of the user, but most of the studies have modelled either one or two in the their models. The study is exploratory in nature and tries to identify, classify and rank dimensions affecting SaaS sourcing decisions. In this study, we developed an integrative framework to identify the determinants of choice of SaaS in the specific context of SaaS based e-procurement and ERP. The framework was then analyzed using the extended Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method suggested by Liberatore (1987) and the relative importance and the weights of the criteria identified using data collected on 8 users and 9 service providers of SaaS based e-procurement and ERP. Although the analysis helped in identifying quality and costs as the two most important determinants of choice of SaaS based eprocurement and ERP, but the other criteria such as network externality benefits, technology and process were also found to be significant determinants of choice.

A fuzzy model to evaluate the suitability of installing an enterprise resource planning system

The use of enterprise resource planning (ERP) as a foundation for the integration of the complete range of business processes and functions, is clearly useful and economically profitable in most very large organizations which manage a great deal of data in their information systems. However, the decision of installing an ERP system in all the companies is not always so clear, it will depend on the size, future profits and other features of the company. Therefore, different parameters (features, aspects) will be evaluated to make a decision about the suitability of the ERP system. These parameters might have different nature or the knowledge about them could be vague or imprecise. Thus, this implies that it would be suitable that the evaluation process can manage heterogeneous information. In this paper we shall present a fuzzy evaluation model to evaluate the suitability of an ERP system based on a multi-expert decision-making (ME-DM) process that is able to deal with heterogeneous information.

The Impact on the Organisational Effects of the Implementation of ERP and Selected Management Methods

The aim of the article was the analysis of the relations of the coexistence of the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and selected management methods: Benchmarking, Business Process Management (BPM), Business Process Reengineering (BPR), Balanced Scorecard (BSC), Competency-based Management (CBM), Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Knowledge Management (KM), Lean Management (LM), Outsourcing, Six Sigma, Total Quality Management (TQM). Contemporary organisations invest more and more in enterprise systems, including ERP systems, and high growth of these investments is still predicted. The complexity and dynamics of modern management systems in fact determine the simultaneous and sequential application of many management concepts and methods. In the main, however, the coexistence of implemented solutions should be beneficial for an organisation. The theoretical views on the relations of ERP and selected management methods have thus been empirically verified in the analysis of differences in the assessment of a number of effects of using the selected management methods in pairs with ERP as well as separately (business, efficiency,management, social and environmental effects) were investigated. One-way ANOVA was used for a sample of 167 Polish organizations .

A Web-based ERP system for business services and supply chain management: Application to real-world process scheduling

A Web-based ERP system developed for attacking business problems and managing real-world business processes ranging from simple office automation procedures to complicated supply chain planning is presented. The system’s Web-aspect provides significant advantages, as the system is distributed through interoperable, cross-platform and highly pluggable Web-service components. The system involves a powerful workflow engine that manages the entire process event flow within the enterprise increasing efficiency and control at the same time. Business processes, when needed, are controlled by the enterprise quality management system and consequently the ISO directives are accurately followed. A real-world process scheduling system developed for the specific needs of Greek Construction Manufacturing Enterprises is illustrated as a detailed paradigm of the system’s capabilities. The problem was formulated to assign project tasks in form of lots to enterprise resources in order that resources idle time and delays in project preparation time were minimized. The problem was solved by a simple and effective heuristic algorithm.
