ABSTRACT
Determining the shear stress in open channel flow is very important in many hydraulic engineering issues such as erosion and sediment transport. In analyzing such problems, knowing the shear stress in the section and the percentage of shear force on the floor and openings of the rectangular canal can be obtained more precisely. The researchers have presented various methods for estimating stress distribution in rectangular sections. But most of them are not usable for some reasons, such as problems in determining secondary currents, real robin distribution, and other effective parameters on the flow, which are not suitable for prediction of shear stress. In this paper, an efficient approach to modeling the mean shear stress and shear strength of the canal walls in open channels has been developed using the Fuzzy-Neural Component Adaptive System (ANFIS). The developed model in this study estimates the average intermediate shear stress and shear strength of the open-channel rectangular channel by considering the different ratios of the average mid-section to the depth of the current and by extracting knowledge from the numerical data. The performance of the proposed model is compared to the experimental method of Knight et al., (1984) using real data based on RMSE, R2 and MAE statistical characteristics. Comparison of the results shows that the S model has a better accuracy than the experimental domain of Knight et al. The new search proposed in this study is applicable to practical design issues and also the ability to connect and combine with mathematical and numerical models of sediment transport and to update their results in real terms.
INTRODUCTION
Estimating shear stress at the boundaries of a channel can be considered as one of the important issues in optimization studies, hydraulic analysis of open channels and estimation of sediment transport power. Shear stress is one of the parameters that has a major role in designing the safety of flood control systems and hydraulic structures, and is considered as the basic information in terms of estimating average depth velocity and discharge estimation. In order to study the velocity profile, shear stress should be determined at the boundaries of the channel. The issue of shear shear separation and shear stress in the canal walls is very important in many studies of open channel flow.
