ABSTRACT
Today, the use of hydrometallurgy for the solution of copper sulfide concentrate has been considered because copper production with common processes of pyrometallurgy brings with it certain problems, including environmental problems. In this research, soluble sulfide concentrate of Sarcheshmeh copper is investigated by sulfuric acid. Copper present in the concentrate is mainly concentrated in the phases of calcopyrite and collozite. Optimum solubility conditions are determined by investigating the effect of solid-liquid ratio, sulfuric acid concentration, grain size and solvent temperature. Then, under optimum conditions, the effect of mechanical activation and the presence of oxidizing agent on the recovery rate has been studied. It is observed that mechanical activation in the presence of oxidizing agent will increase the reaction rate to 0.8. Also, kinetic studies, assuming a decreasing core model, show that intrusive processes control the reaction speed.
INTRODUCTION
Generally, copper is produced by pyrometallurgy, hydrometallurgy and electrochemical processes from ore. Although pyrometallurgy techniques have been prevalent so far, new methods of hydrometallurgy and electrometallurgy have been developed for the production of metals since the late nineteenth century. Hydrometallurgical methods have a valuable place in the extraction of non-ferrous metals. Some hydrolector modal methods have been developed in the 20th century, which has led to the development of new methods of metal extraction and treatment. Today, about 70 to 80 percent of copper production is carried out using pyrometallurgy methods, and only 20-30 percent is produced by hydrometallurgical methods, most of which are oxide rocks. The best and most economical solvent for copper oxide rocks is sulfuric acid. New investigations have been carried out on soluble sulfur and sulfur concentrates, and over the past 20 to 30 years a number of articles have been published in this regard, which include extensive research on solubilizing sulfide minerals in chloride. Although past research has shown that the effect of solvent ferric chloride is more than ferric sulfate. But in any case, one of the main problems of this method is that the chlorine solution should be converted into sulfate so that it can be separated by copper separation.
