ABSTRACT
In this research, Y block samples were cast in different degrees of magnesium and silicon in accordance with ASTM A536 standard. After cutting and preparation of standard samples, tensile tests were performed. From the traction samples after failure, metallographic samples were used to determine the percentage Compact Graphite and Prilite were prepared. The results show that with increasing magnesium, the final tensile strength, the yield strength, the percentage increase in length and hardness increase. The ultimate tensile strength, hardening strength and hardness show no significant changes with increasing spherical graphite, but the percentage increase in length almost doubles by increasing the spherical graphite by 15%. With increasing silicon, the properties of the above mentioned materials increase significantly, so that the increase of molten silicon from 8.1 to 3% increases the yield strength by 18% and the percentage increase in length is almost tripled.
INTRODUCTION
In spite of the increasing demand for light-alloy castings such as aluminum and composites in the automotive industry and researchers’ efforts on the new and efficient production methods of these alloys, compressed graphite cast iron (CGI) 1, due to its physical and mechanical properties and low production costs, continues to be a rival material for these alloys. Remains. The tensile strength of hardened graphite is up to 70% more than gray cast iron and is close to ductile cast iron. The fatigue strength of this cast iron is about twice as high as ordinary gray cast iron. The combination of strength, thermal conductivity and proper casting ability has made it possible to use this type of cast iron in the production of complex components such as cylinder blocks and cylinders of cars (under simultaneous mechanical and thermal stresses). Compressed graphite is one of the types of graphite morphology, which, in our view, is between type A sheet graphites and spherical graphite in ductile cast iron, which is why, in terms of properties, these are two types of cast iron. Since this structure is obtained from graphite in a narrow range of magnesium, it is important to control the chemical composition of the melt base and the compressive alloy during the production of this cast iron (in order to achieve a suitable structure of compact graphite).
