ABSTRACT
Generational difference is one of the most important issues in our society. A society with a large young population and rapid changes. Many believe that the transition from the previous generation culture to the new generation is in serious trouble and for various reasons, very incomplete, with the new generation largely not adhering to the values and norms of its predecessor and a deep divide has been created between the two generations. . This article examines the attitude of mothers and daughters to their gender identity. Theoretical approaches for explaining the integrated problem are from the perspectives of Anthony Giddens, Pierre Bourdieu, Carl Mannheim, and Inglehart, using survey method and questionnaire technique. The population of the study consisted of all female students of public universities in Tehran, aged 20-25 years living in Tehran and their mothers. The sample size was 344 persons and multi-stage cluster sampling. Chi-square and Pearson correlation tests were used to analyze the explanatory information. The results show that there is a difference between mothers and daughters in terms of their gender identity, so that mothers have a more traditional view of their identity and girls have a modern view of their gender identity. In the area of homework, girls have argued for greater equality between men and women. Mothers were stronger in adhering to cultural stereotypes. As mothers ‘education increased, their traditional attitudes declined, and with their daughters’ attitudes, their attitudes became more traditional.
