ABSTRACT
Knowledge and understanding of how fusion of steel during colds has always been of great importance for designers of steel rolling lines. This is due to the effect of the cooling rate of steel in ferrite and perlite fractions and the structural morphology and, consequently, the final mechanical properties of the product. In this research, a mathematical model is presented based on finite element method and Scheil Complementary Law for prediction of temperature distribution and fuzzy transformation. This model predicts the transformation of austenite to perlite by the Avrami conjugation and uses two-dimensional elements in radial and peripheral directions to solve equations. The accuracy of the temperature results, the fuzzy transformation, including the volume fraction of the phases and the intermediate layer of simulation, were evaluated by experimental data from practical experiments to cool a percarbon steel. An acceptable agreement was found between theoretical and practical results, which indicates the applicability of the proposed model in practice.
INTRODUCTION
The mechanical properties of hot rolled steel are completely dependent on the chemical composition, the deformation applied during rolling and the heat treatment after rolling. Since the parameters are widespread or involved, the proper design of the rolling process requires a large number of tests, and this test and error method not only increases the cost of construction but also prolongs the production time. Therefore, precise prediction of the dimensions and properties of hot rolled products requires the microstructure modeling due to the fuzzy degradation created during cooling. Given the advances made in recent years in the field of microstructure modeling, mathematical models are more acceptable than other models to predict metallurgical changes in matter.
