ABSTRACT
The objectives of this study are to use REE elements to track soil formation processes in order to determine the contribution of successive processes in soil formation. We first consider the origin and content of rare earth elements in soils, to evaluate their natural formation, and to improve the data processing, so that we can interpret their concentrations. Following this, the effects of various soil-forming processes on the status of rare earth elements in the soil: from their release to soil dissolution by dissolving the early minerals (heavy minerals, phosphates, silicates, and carbonates) during weathering until they are stabilized on or into We investigate the major secondary minerals (REEs of clay minerals, iron, manganese, oxides and carbonates), then their mobility by re-cycling plants and organic matter, and ultimately studying the effects of clay formation and reduction processes on their subtraction. We conclude that REEs, much more than other elements, can track the processes involved in the wide variety of non-contaminated soils from various parent materials. In general, the weathering of the REE elements is distinguished and is considered to be a significant part of the variation in soil REE. The plant’s re-cycling causes weak motility of REEs and their accumulation on the surface soil. The formation of clay soils can be investigated and traced using MREE enrichment and Eu anomalies of clay minerals. Redox processes (oxidation-reduction) can be detected and detected with Ce anomalies caused by the precipitation of cerium on manganese oxides. For the use of rare earth elements as a soil-trapper tracing agent, we recommend: (a) the accurate detection of minerals containing REE (b) adapting the selection of resources to normalize; and (c) performing mass balance calculations.
