ABSTRACT
The advantages of friction stirrer welding (FSW) in aluminum, magnesium, copper and alloys have led to considerable research interest in using this process in steels. As one of the basic work in the world and the country’s first experience in friction stir welding welding, in this paper, the effect of welding speed on the microstructure and mechanical properties of austenitic stainless steel is studied. Steel 304 samples were welded at a speed of 2 mm at a rotational speed of 400 rpm and linear speeds of 100, 50 and 150 mm / min. The microstructure observations showed that the seeds were very fine in the weld region and their size was about 2-4 μm. On the other hand, the hardness of this region increases compared to the base metal. These results confirm the occurrence of dynamic recrystallization in the weld joint region. Their tensile and fracture tests also showed that, apart from the welding speed of 150mm / min (due to the formation of hole and groove defects in welding), failure occurs in the base metal at two other speeds.
INTRODUCTION
Friction stirrer welding (FSW) is a solid state welding process developed by TWI in 1991. This method involves dipping a rotating tool into the welding seam and moving it along the welding seam. In this way, the material is filled with frictional heat between the tool and the material and filled with seams. The microstructure of the weld consists of a twisted zone, (SZ) of the region under the influence of thermoeccanic action (TMAZ) and heat affected region (HAZ). In the junction area, severe deformation and high friction temperatures often result in microstructure microstructure through dynamic recrystallization. In the TMAZ region, the material experienced a relatively high temperature and a change in shape, but due to the inadequate strain, instead of recrystallization, a dynamic recovery occurred. In the region, the microstructure of HAZ and the mechanical properties of the material have been changed as a result of the boiling heat input, without changing the mechanical shape. Since the welding tool faces severe stress and abrasion conditions, since the time of the invention, the FSW has been limited to the welding of low melting material, such as aluminum, magnesium, copper and alloys.
