ABSTRACT
The presence of H 2S in addition to crude oil and petroleum products creates perfectly favorable conditions for hydrogen damages in the form of cracking in pipelines and storage tanks of API steel. In this study, the corrosion behavior and resistance to hydrogen thaw in three steel grades, API-X42 API-X52 and API-X65 were investigated for seamless pipes used in natural gas transmission lines. Samples were prepared from the weld seam, the region affected by heat and base metal. Regarding the risks of using H 2S gas in the corrosion test, for this test, instead of the H2S gas tail, which was classified in the NACE 2.0282 standard, thiosulfate ion was added to the solution at a concentration of 0.001 mol / mol. The amount of permeable hydrogen in the samples was measured by glycerin displacement method. After the corrosion test in thiosulfate solution, the samples were cross sectional and the cross section was investigated to investigate the formation of hydrogenation crack after immersion by light microscope. The results showed that the API-X65 steel had a higher permeable hydrogen content and corrosion rate than other grades of this steel. In this grid, after the test of immersion of cracks in the base metal and weld metal areas was observed. In the other two grades, there were also cracks in the weld area.
INTRODUCTION
In recent years, the use of high strength alloy low-alloy steels in the oil and gas industry has been developed to build pipelines and storage tanks due to the favorable properties of these steels. These properties include strength, toughness and high impact resistance, and the ability to weld and form, and to withstand cracks. API steels can be considered as a subset of low-alloy steels of high strength. The presence of H2S gas as a solution in crude oil and petroleum products leads to the formation of an environment called sour environment. One of the most prominent features of this environment is the provision of very favorable conditions for the penetration of atomic hydrogen into steel and causing hydrogen damage. Due to the fact that they often occur as a hydrogen cracker, this damage results in very poor personal and financial damage, especially in pressure vessels.
