The Effects of Securitized Asset Portfolio Specialization on Bank.[taliem.ir]

The Effects of Securitized Asset Portfolio Specialization on Bank Holding Company’s Return, and Risk

The effect of portfolio specialization or diversification on firm performance has been widely studied in the field of banking and finance. The two contrasting theories widely considered are the traditional portfolio theory in favor of diversification and the modern corporate finance theory in favor of portfolio specialization. The traditional portfolio theory asserts that diversification minimizes the occurrence of financial distress because of imperfect correlation of project returns (Diamond, 1984). Following this school of thought, securitized banks should fully diversify their securitized asset portfolio risk. In contrast, proponents for portfolio specialization argue that when there is a high probability of insolvency, diversification would rather expose the company to many sectors since the downturn of one sector may likely bring the entire bank to bankruptcy (Winton, 1999). Accordingly, the performance of securitized asset portfolio may be endogenously impacted by securitization default risk in association with securitized assets portfolio diversification/concentration decision. Hyland (2003) argue that unlike specialized firm, diversified firms have a discount on their valuation. Infact, they show that specialized firms that become diversified experienced a long-term reduction in firm value.

Enhancing DNS Security using Dynamic Firewalling with Network Agents

In this paper we propose a solution to strengthen the security of Domain Name System (DNS) servers associated with one or more Top Level Domains (TLD). In this way we intend to be able to reduce the security risk when using major internet services, based on DNS. The proposed solution has been developed and tested at FCCN, the TLD manager for the .PT domain. Through the implementation of network sensors that monitor the network in real-time, we are capable to dynamically prevent, detect or limit the scope of attempted intrusions or other types of occurrences to the DNS service. The platform relies heavily on cross- correlation allowing data from a particular sensor to be shared with the others. Administration tasks such as setting up alarms or performing statistical analysis are made through a web-based interface.

Effects of exercise training on blood lipids and lipoproteins in children and adolescents

The following review aims to describe what is known about the effects of exercise training in children and adolescents on the following blood lipids and lipoproteins: total cholesterol (TC), high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and triglycerides (TG). Only studies that described mode, frequency, duration and intensity of the exercise were included in the review. The results of the studies reviewed were equivocal. Clearly the effects of exercise training on the blood lipid and lipoprotein levels of normolipidemic children and adolescents are equivocal. Of the 14 studies reviewed, six observed a positive alteration in the blood lipid and lipoprotein profile, four of the studies observed no alteration in the blood lipid and lipoprotein profile and one study observed a negative effect on HDL-C but an overall improvement in the lipid and lipoprotein profile due to the decrease in the TC/HDL ratio. It appears that methodological problems present in the majority of the exercise training studies limits the ability to make a conclusive, evidence based statement regarding the effect exercise training has on blood lipid levels in normolipidemic children. Most of the research design flaws can be linked to one or more of the following: small numbers of subjects in each study, low or no representation of girls, inclusion of both boys and girls in the subject pool, inclusion of boys and girls at different maturational stages in the subject pool, exercise training regimes that do not adequately control for exercise intensity, exercise training regimes that do not last longer than 8 weeks and exercise training studies that do not have an adequate exercise volume to elicit a change. Ideally, future research should focus on longitudinal studies which examine the effects of exercise training from the primary school years through adulthood
