ABSTRACT
The waste of more than 30% of the water entering the drinking water distribution networks of the country due to leakage from the networks has caused serious concern among the authorities of the water and wastewater companies of the country. Non-visible leaks from network pipes, especially in the old networks of water distribution, form a large part of the annual waste of water distribution networks. In this paper, the management of leakage reduction in the urban water distribution network of neighborhoods with high water losses is studied. For the water distribution network of the neighborhoods of the neighborhoods, which always has a surplus pressure problem in most places, pressure management (with regard to the direct relationship between pressure and leakage) is considered as a useful tool for reducing leakage. In this regard, the installation of pressure relief valves The most commonly used pressure management method is considered as an optimization problem. To solve this problem, a proposed optimization model has been developed considering the objective functions (1) minimizing overall leakage in the network, and (2) minimizing the number of pressure terminals and considering the constraints of the problem. The optimization model was written using a two-objective genetic algorithm in the form of a computer program in the MATLAB software environment and the EPANET software was used to simulate the water distribution network (mass balance equations and energy equations). The results of model implementation in Mahallat water distribution network, assuming three different scenarios, indicate that installing and adjusting the pressure reducing valves according to the locations and optimizing the output of the program will significantly reduce the annual loss of this network. For example, in the first scenario, there is a 61% decrease in primary network leakage rates.
INTRODUCTION
Water as one of the most important human needs has historically played an important role in the formation of various civilizations and has always been regarded as a major concern of human societies. In a study conducted by the United Nations Environment Program, it is estimated that in 2025, global jams will be involved in water tensions. Therefore, considering how to use water, preserving and saving it is one of the requirements for the advancement of human societies.
