ABSTRACT
The most important issue that is considered in the design of pressure-leaking tunnels is the hydraulic jacking phenomenon. This phenomenon occurs when the water pressure applied on the surface of a discontinuity is greater than the vertical stresses that act on the surface. As a result, the discontinuity level is increased and the permeability and jet leakage rate increase. If the load is sufficient, the amount of enclosing stresses is sufficient. But in case of insufficient overload, metal coatings are needed at a very high cost to prevent this phenomenon. The most popular method used to estimate the required charge is Norwegian empirical methods. These methods estimate the amount of overload required and non-economic. In this study, using a separate component software, Udec has been studied the behavior of a pressure-tunnel tunnel that has been selected as a case study of the Missile Tunnel located in the state of Washington, USA. The behavioral model of elastic rock and behavioral model of reciprocally-ductile joints is considered to be complete. The routine of this work is that with increasing water pressure in the tunnel, the water pressure that occurs in the hydraulic jacking phenomenon is obtained. Factors such as water leakage from the periphery of the tunnel, openings of the tunnels around the tunnel and surface displacements have been used as indicators of the occurrence of the hydraulic jacking phenomenon. Then, the results of the numerical study were compared with the results of the Norwegian method and it has been shown that the amount of water pressure that Norwegian methods have estimated at the phenomenon pressure is very low and this has led to the use of metal coating Increased design and design by these methods is non-economic.
INTRODUCTION
Pressure tunnels are one of the components of hydroelectric projects that are used to transfer high pressure water to the power plant. From the point of view, these tunnels are divided into four categories of uncovered tunnels, non-armed concrete tunnels, armed concrete tunnels, and metal tunnels. Unbounded tunnels are used only in areas with high-strength stone, with narrow grips with high spacing and sufficient overlays. Also, metal coatings are often used to prevent leakage.
