ABSTRACT
Gas pipelines blocked due to the formation of gas hydrates are major challenges facing the oil and gas industries. One of the ways to prevent the formation of gas hydrates is the use of kinetic inhibitors that have been widely considered in recent years due to their low consumption and environmental considerations. In the present work, the performance of two 11W and EG kinetic inhibitors, which are soluble copolymer vinyl pyrrolidone-vinyl caprolactam and polymer of polyvinyl caprolactam, respectively, have been evaluated for 6 oC and 51 bar pressure. The results of the investigations carried out at concentrations of 1 and 1/1% weight show that the 11W inhibitor, in contrast to the EG inhibitor, in both concentrations more effectively increases the inhibition time and delay in the formation of hydrate nuclei, so that at a concentration of% 1/1 The inhibition time of 1/1 hours for EG inhibitor increases to about 5 hours for a 11W inhibitor. Also, the evaluation shows that in addition to inhibition time, the 55W inhibitor performance is more effective in reducing the growth rate of hydrated crystals compared to EG inhibitor.
INTRODUCTION
Iran is one of the countries with rich natural gas reserves. One of the most important challenges for natural gas is the formation of gas hydrates, which can cause a lot of problems in the oil and gas industry. The formation of hydrates in the natural gas flow lines will increase the flow of pressure and the obstruction of the pipelines’ route, causing many injuries and costs to the oil and gas industry each year. Gas hydrates are ice crystalline compounds formed by the combination of gas molecules with water molecules under appropriate temperature and pressure conditions. In this structure, water molecules form networks with multiple cavities that are occupied by gas molecules.
