ABSTRACT
Soil contamination to heavy metals is a serious and growing problem around the world. Zeolite has been widely studied as an adsorbent material for soil contaminated with heavy metals. But its theory and application are still not clear. This research studies aspects related to the theory and the application of natural zeolite to modify soils contaminated with heavy metals. For this purpose, the use of artificial zeolites can lead to many advances in the theory of soil correction by natural zeolite. Soil correction using natural zeolite as an auxiliary material can be used more sustainably and with the possibility of retrieval. In this research, the results of removal of lead from soil contaminated with this heavy metal have been investigated. For this purpose, natural zeolite was added to a lead contaminated soil to prevent its dispersal and entry into the plant. The results show that zeolite prevents lead breakage by regulating soil pH and inhibits lead penetration into the plant. A good amount of zeolite (20 g kg-1) can reduce lead concentrations in edible parts by up to 30% in severely contaminated soils (2000mgkg-1).
INTRODUCTION
After human development, human activities have brought various harmful elements into the environment. Widespread use of irrigation with sewage, sewage sludge, insecticides and exhaust gases released from vehicles exhaust, mining, melting, and rapid development of mines without effective control has led to the accumulation of heavy metals in the soil. Soil pollution to heavy metals is an acute and growing problem around the world. Heavy metals are irreplaceable, non-degradable and resistant to soils, in contrast to organic pollutants. Although soils, with different mechanisms (sedimentation, absorption processes, and oxidation and reduction reactions), have the natural ability to dilute their biological activity and the movement of metals, when the concentration of heavy metals is high enough that the soil’s ability to prevent Their spread is reduced, contaminations can spread, resulting in severe contamination of agricultural products or underground water. So it is very important that the contaminated soils be refined and refined.
