ABSTRACT
Extrusion is one of the complex forming processes in the production of parts. In cold extrusion, especially in steel, tensile stresses on the mold are extremely high, which reduces the life of the tool. Choosing the right angle for the mold can reduce these tensions. In this paper, the stresses on the die in direct extrusion of 16MnCr5 steel are investigated using finite element method and it is shown that by choosing the appropriate angle in the form, these stresses can be reduced. In addition, by determining the extrusion force in these states, its relationship with maximum stress in the form is also examined.
INTRODUCTION
Proper design of the mold leads to the success of the extrusion process. The mold must be designed in such a way as to achieve the highest possible lifetime. The life of the tool is the number of healthy cuts that the tool can produce before the final damage. The final injury can be at the expense of wear, failure, or in the form of static tension and fatigue. The problem of wear for aluminum and copper is more than that. But for steel and rice, the final damage is more because of fatigue. Applying allowable variations in the geometry of the mold can reduce these stresses. By reducing these stresses, the extrusion force can also be reduced. Avitzer optimized the angle of the die in terms of forces imposed by the upper limit method. Bion and Huang studied the strain distribution in the production unit using finite element. Kim has been evaluated by limited components of strain distribution in the piece during the hot extrusion process. Alkoli evaluated the effect of molding angle and cross-sectional reduction on extrusion force in hydrostatic extrusion, which results could be generalized for direct direct extrusion. Wieffie obtained the extrusion pressure in the form of direct extrusion for different molds using the smelter method. Then, an algorithm is used to calculate the optimal form of the mold in which it requires a lower state for extrusion. Research has also been carried out on the energy required for small crack cracks under vertical pressure on the mold. Cosenza and colleagues conducted a research on cold steel extrusion. According to their results, the rapid changes in the flow of materials increase the vertical tensile strength in the mold, and the sharp corners and the reduction of the high cross-section reduce the wear time of the tool. Tieranan also examined the cold aluminum extrusion and the effect of mold geometry on the extrusion force. Nourani and colleagues showed that the required amount of cold aluminum extrusion for curved molds is less than conical molds.
