ABSTRACT
Manganese austenitic steels are in fragile condition due to carbide deposition in the grain boundary. This brittleness usually occurs during a slow cooling in the temperature range of 400-800 ° C. The direct quench operation after freezing at temperatures above 1000 ° C can prevent the deposition of carbides at the grain boundary. In this study, in order to increase the efficiency and elimination of heat treatment and reduction of carbide deposits, the methanizer components were removed from the melt in methanogens at temperatures of 1000 ° C and quenched in air and water. Investigating the microscopic structure of the samples indicates that direct Hodfild steel condensation in water at a temperature of 1000 ° C, in addition to removing carbide deposits at the grain boundary, also prevented the separation of phosphorus during freezing and improved the mechanical properties of the steel.
INTRODUCTION
Hadfield or austenitic manganese steels according to ASTM-A128 standard have 35.1-1.35% carbon and 11-14% manganese, and sometimes there are some quantities of silicon, nickel, worm, molybdenum and some other elements. This steel is cooled rapidly at high temperature and has austenitic structure. Unlike most steels that harden after heat treatment, this steel is softer after the heat treatment. But this softness is not synonymous with low abrasion resistance and machinability, because due to hard work, the surface of the steel is hardened and its brains remain soft. Hadfield Steel is known for its high resistance to wear with high impact and good flexibility and austenite structure after the heat treatment in the steel industry. There are two important stages in the production of Hadfield steel grades: the first step is to melt and produce the appropriate composition, and the second step is to perform the correct heat treatment on the casting parts. If the melting composition is not suitable, the heat treatment is done correctly, however, it will not have a beneficial effect on the piece. The abrasion resistance of manganese austenitic steel casting is associated with problems due to the low thermal conductivity of this steel with high thermal expansion coefficient, the high reaction rate of the molten with acid refractory materials and the rapid conversion of semi-stable austenite to carbide or perlite.
