ABSTRACT
Lime has important impacts on clay soils, but in the presence of sulfate due to chemical reactions such as clay, lime and sulfate, swollen minerals, such as etheringite and tamasite, are formed by the ability to absorb the amount A lot of water is swollen and causes the soil stabilization objectives not to be achieved. In this research, the effect of pozzolan on the properties of condensation and infiltration of clay stabilized clay with lime with gypsum as a common sulfate in the soil and the evaluation of free flood test results on lime stabilized clay samples, a method to prevent the increase of swelling of these soils The presence of sulfate is presented.
INTRODUCTION
For decades, lime has been used to improve the technical properties of soils. Among the many applications of lime in civil engineering, one can mention the improvement of soil engineering properties on roads, gullies, foundations and piles. Improvement of soil properties by using lime among other methods is a very practical and economical way. Croft finds that the addition of lime reduces the potential for inflation, the psychological limit, the pulp index and the dry weight of the maximum and increases the optimum moisture content, the contraction and resistance. Bell found that the optimum lime percentage for soil consolidation is between 1% and 3% of the dry weight of the soil, and its further increase does not have much effect on the pulping properties, but it will increase resistance. Other studies, however, consider the use of 2 to 8 percent lime to improve soil properties. When the lime is added to the wet soil, two types of reaction occur. -1 Short-term reactions and -2 Long-term reactions. Short-term reactions include cation exchange, flocculation, and carbonation, and long-term reactions include pozzolanic and resistive reactions. Cationic exchange occurs between calcium ions (+ Ca2) and the various cations accumulated on the surface of the soil, resulting in clay particles becoming closer to each other, which is called clotting. But in the second group of reactions, ie long-term reactions (Pozzolani), there are products that increase the resistance and density of clay soils.
