ABSTRACT
The occurrence of age-related physiological changes makes the elderly susceptible to water problems and electrolytes, which can even lead to death. The purpose of this study is to review the key aspects of age-related pathophysiological changes that affect the balance of fluids and electrolytes in the elderly. The present study is based on library compilation and search of various texts. Valid scientific sites were also investigated. The results showed that elderly people are susceptible to dehydration and electrolyte disturbances, and various factors can be involved in this regard. Including physical disability, which restricts access to liquids, increases the sensitivity of factors associated with therapies, including polypharmacy, and the use of uncontrolled diuretics, kidney aging, and physical and mental decline. Sensitivity of older people is aggravated when exposed to physiological stresses over water and electrolyte disorders. It has been shown that positive fluid balance is an independent risk factor for death in patients with acute kidney damage. Generally, it can be concluded that age-related pathophysiologic changes in relation to fluid and electrolyte disturbances endangers the elderly in a group, and a better understanding of these changes to better manage the treatment of fluid disorders and electrolytes in Seniors are needed.
INTRODUCTION
The age above 65 is the beginning of an elderly period. At present, the number of elderly people has increased significantly throughout the world, and it is estimated that the number of people aged 65 and over will increase by 2 times in 2050. With the arrival of old age, the probability of need for medical care and medical expenses will be random. Older people are susceptible to dehydration and electrolyte disturbances, which can result from physical disability and limited access to adequate fluids or due to therapeutic methods, including simultaneous use of more than one drug and the arbitrary use of diuretics and other medications. Occur.
