Managing Data Source Quality for Data Warehouse in Manufacturing

ABSTRACT

Data quality and Data Source Management is one of the key success factors for data warehouse project. Many data warehouse projects fail due to poor quality of the data. It is believed that the problems can be fixed later and because of that, a lot of time will be spent to fix the  error. If low quality data fed into the data warehouse system, the result will be not accurate if these data are used in the decision making. Many data warehouse and business intelligence projects failure are due to wrong or low quality data. Therefore this paper will underpins several aspects such as Total Data Quality Management (TDQM), ISO 9001:2008 and Quality Management System (QMS) in order to address data quality problems in the early stage and find out the best procedure to manage the data sources. To find a standard procedure in managing data source base on ISO 9001:2008 standard, process in managing data source is identified and a compared to the ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System (QMS) requirements. As a result, this process is viewed as a kind of production process and relate to the concepts of quality management known from the manufacturing and service domain. More precisely, a high quality management system in managing data source is proposed. This system is based on ISO 9001:2008 standard and hopes it can help organizations in implementing and operating quality management system. By using ISO 9001:2008 framework to the process of managing data source, this approach will be similar to the manufacturing concept that hasan added advantage when compared to traditional approaches in managing data source.

INTRODUCTION

Popularity of data warehouse system has been increased and being used by many companies to store their data. This reflect to the  increasingly need of data from the integration of heterogeneous data source. This will lead another concern on the quality of the data at the source. If the data have problems in terms of quality such as inconsistencies, obsolete or missing value, the resulted output will not be  accurate if these data are going to be used for decision making.

چکیده

کیفیت داده ها و مدیریت منبع داده یکی از عوامل موفقیت کلیدی برای پروژه انبار داده است. بسیاری از پروژه های انبار داده ها به علت کیفیت پایین داده ها خراب می شوند. اعتقاد بر این است که مشکلات بعدا می تواند ثابت شود و به همین دلیل زمان زیادی برای رفع خطا صرف می شود. اگر داده های با کیفیت پایین به سیستم انبار داده ها تغذیه شوند، اگر داده ها در تصمیم گیری مورد استفاده قرار نگیرند نتیجه دقیق نخواهد بود. بسیاری از خرابی پروژه های انبار داده ها و اطلاعات کسب و کار به علت اطلاعات اشتباه یا کم کیفیت هستند. بنابراین این مقاله بر اساس چندین جنبه نظیر مدیریت کیفیت جامع داده ها (TDQM)، ISO 9001: 2008 و سیستم مدیریت کیفیت (QMS) به منظور حل مشکلات کیفیت داده در مراحل اولیه پایه گذاری خواهد شد و بهترین روش برای مدیریت منابع داده . برای پیدا کردن یک روش استاندارد در مدیریت منبع داده مبتنی بر استاندارد ISO 9001: 2008، روند مدیریت منابع داده شناسایی شده و در مقایسه با سیستم مدیریت کیفیت (ISO 9001: 2008 (QMS مورد نیاز است. در نتیجه، این فرآیند به عنوان یک نوع فرایند تولید مشاهده می شود و مربوط به مفاهیم مدیریت کیفیت شناخته شده از حوزه تولید و خدمات می باشد. دقیق تر، یک سیستم مدیریت کیفیت بالا در مدیریت منبع داده پیشنهاد شده است. این سیستم بر اساس استاندارد ISO 9001: 2008 است و امیدوار است بتواند به سازمانها در اجرای و مدیریت سیستم مدیریت کیفیت کمک کند. با استفاده از چارچوب ISO 9001: 2008 به فرایند مدیریت منبع داده، این رویکرد شبیه مفهوم تولید است که مزیت آن را در مقایسه با روش های سنتی در مدیریت منبع داده افزایش داده است.

مقدمه

محبوبیت سیستم انبار داده افزایش یافته است و توسط بسیاری از شرکت ها برای ذخیره داده های خود استفاده می شود. این منعکس کننده نیاز فزاینده ای از داده ها از ادغام منبع داده ناهمگن است. این باعث نگرانی دیگری در مورد کیفیت داده ها در منبع می شود. اگر داده ها از لحاظ کیفیت مانند ناسازگاری، مقدار منسوخ یا گمشده مشکلاتی داشته باشند، خروجی حاصل نتیجه دقیق نخواهد بود اگر این اطلاعات برای تصمیم گیری مورد استفاده قرار گیرد.
