ABSTRACT
In this research, the nonlinear behavior of concrete walls reinforced with carbon fiber reinforced polymers (CFRP) against the load caused by the explosion wave is investigated using Abaqus finite element software. In this study, the explosive load, the supporting conditions, the wall dimensions, the fiber, and the properties of the materials used are considered the same, and the effect of the layout and thickness of the CFRP sheets in different states have been studied. First, the displacement and distribution of stress and the sign of destruction in the walls were calculated and the critical areas were identified. Then, the response to the reinforced walls is compared with the performance of reinforced concrete walls with each other and with the reference wall, and the effect of using this retrofitting method for walls against explosive loading has been determined. In the end, considering the results of the screening of tape strips against the complete wall coverage, the application of this method has been evaluated in a proper retrofit.
INTRODUCTION
The explosion technology and the knowledge of explosive charges have long been over. During this period, many theoretical and laboratory researches have been done by engineers and scientists on explosive materials and loads. Today, with the spread of the unfortunate amount of terrorist attacks, the analysis and design of explosion-proof structures has also been developed and several codes have been developed by various authorities for explosive analysis and design. On the other hand, with the advent of new materials, the expansion of their application in civil engineering and their proper use in upgrading existing structures, a new perspective has been provided to counteract these events. This research studies the effectiveness of composite materials on the performance of concrete walls against explosions. The concrete reinforced concrete wall with carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) is subjected to an explosive charge. The CFRPs used include epoxy resin and carbon fiber. In this study, the explosive load, wall dimensions and fixed supporting conditions were assumed and the effect of carbon fiber layering and CFRP sheet thickness in different conditions was investigated. For modeling, analysis and processing of results, the Abaqus software has been used.
