ABSTRACT
Safety indicators in the freeway safety analysis are used using real data or simulation tools. TTC time, as expected, until the end of the 2nd vehicle (in pursuit mode), if their speed and trajectory do not change until the time of the collision, and the time interval (THDW) is the interval between the successive passage of a specific point of two vehicles (in Vehicle Tracking Mode) A definite road section is one of the most popular time-based safety indicators to detect rear-end situations. This paper analyzes the safety of a specific freeway using these two indicators. For this purpose, NGSIM calculates the probability of car risk based on the TTC and THDW indices in each line, and the average results for the entire freeway, using the traffic data of the freeway I-80 project, to compare the results. The results show that the time index of the time compared to the accident is more capable of identifying situations with potential (reverse) potential collision risk.
INTRODUCTION
The first death from a motor vehicle occurred in London in 1896. Since that time, road accidents have claimed roughly 30 million lives. According to the NHTSA1 reports, front-end crashes with a frequency of 1.5 million per year account for 23 percent of all vehicle accidents in the United States. So far, much effort has been devoted to designing and implementing effective measures to increase road safety. An older approach in this area is to determine the incident points using crash statistics. But the data available from many parts of the world questioned the accuracy of these statistics, and as a result, the analyzes made on the basis of these statistics do not have sufficient reliability. For example, in the Philippines, only one report from each of the five (or more) reports of hospital sources appears in police statistics. In Indonesia, insurance companies reported about 40% more deaths than police. In 1995, Taiwan’s health ministry statistics were 130% higher than the police report. In Karachi, recent studies have shown that police reports cover only half of ambulance statistics. In China, the Beijing traffic engineering research institute estimates the number of deaths in 1994 by 111,000. This is 40% more than the number reported by the police (78,000 people).
