ABSTRACT
In this paper, abrasive rocks were used in the pin-on-disk test to evaluate the wear behavior of abrasion resistant steels in near-realistic conditions. Factors such as type of stone cutter, the amount of perpendicular force on pin, linear speed of disk and type of metal tested were studied on the amount and wear mechanism. The results showed that, if designing a pin on a disk correctly, the use of abrasive rocks could be a suitable method for evaluating the wear behavior of abrasion resistant materials such as Hadfield steels. In addition, the perpendicular force of the pin plays a more effective role than the linear speed of the disc.
INTRODUCTION
The pin-on-disc method is a common method for evaluating the wear behavior of all types of alloys and composites, such as aluminum base composites and all kinds of steel and abrasion resistant cast-iron. Measuring the abrasion resistance of various types of castings (for example, a car brake disc) on metal discs is an example of the application of this method. In this method, a pin and abrasive agent are generally provided in a metal disc. The main limitation in this method is the assessment of abrasion resistant steels and cast iron. Because the practical and mechanical conditions of this type of material (pin) are such that when using steel discs, the desired results are not obtained or the results obtained for industrial applications, such as balloons and liners in Asia that are in contact with hard metal Like rock and sand, it can not be used. Therefore, various methods have been developed for the evaluation of the trilogy of wear resistant materials. The flow method of abrasive particles (such as sand) is one of the known methods on the sample. Wiche developed the method of wearing the roiner with various abrasive particles such as sand and sand to provide a suitable method with high repeatability to assess the wear of equipment for the transportation of raw materials in the mining and metallurgical industries. Mosbah et al. Used a pin-on-drain (moving cylinder) method to evaluate the wear resistance of the tungsten carbide composite and iron aluminide composites. Hadfield Steel, which is a stainless steel, is used in hard working conditions such as crushed stone, mills, excavating equipment and railway rails, can be worn under different types of wear mechanisms during operation.
